We use Story of the World (SOTW) for our history spine. The curriculum breaks down the history of the world (from the start of mankind until present time) into four time periods (ancient, middle ages, early modern times, modern age). Students go through the four time periods sequentially in grades 1-4, again in grades 5-9, and a third time in grades 9-12 (going more in-depth each time).
I schedule one section of the history book in each daily session. Usually, there are two or three sections per chapter, so we cover one chapter each week. Ryan’s book, SOTW 2- Middle Ages, is broken into more sections (shorter sections) than Ashby’s book, SOTW 4- Modern Age. So, you’ll notice that the Grade 2 schedule includes three days of history each week, while Grade 4 contains just two.
