As I’ve stated before, art education is not my strong suit. I have found that what works best for us is to experience art. We attend symphony concerts, jazz concerts, museum exhibitions, and theater productions. I encourage the kids to practice art in their free time, read about specific artists, and listen to classical music. They also attend classes and drop-in hours at a local art studio. As far as our Golden Gate Prep curriculum, I’ve created a simple book I call our Art Gallery. I list pictures from each of the artists we will study this year. We write the name of the piece, the date of the piece, and the kids thoughts about it. Done.
By the end of the school year, we’ll have a completed “gallery” that the kids can revisit whenever they want. To see the artists in our gallery, click the image below:
